Actor Patrick Swayze has reportedly abandoned all medical treatment in his battle with cancer.
The 56-year-old, who was diagnosed 12 months ago with pancreatic cancer, is believed to have made the decision after doctors told him there is little they could do to stop the progress of his illness, Britain's Daily Mail reports.
Swayze had recently announced he was determined to fight his illness, but was admitted to hospital earlier this month with a chest infection that has left him seriously weakened.
A family friend is quoted by US magazine the National Enquirer as saying: "There's nothing more doctors can do for him.
"We are down to the wire and the goal now is to keep Patrick comfortable.
"His condition is inoperable and they have stopped the chemo. He's still losing weight and he's very weak."
The friend added: "He's taking morphine. That and the cigarettes seem to keep him functioning through the pain."
In a recent interview Patrick vowed to bravely fight on, adding: "There's lots more I want to do. Lots more. I want to last until they find a cure."
