Singer Mariah Carey is denying claims she left Barack Obama's inauguration ceremony because organisers would not allow her onstage with the US President.
She insists she had to flee for her own safety because of a group of over-enthusiastic fans.
Mariah was escorted from the event by police after performing 'Hero'.
The New York Post reported that the singer left the ceremony because she was not satisfied with her spot at last Tuesday's event.
"Mariah was in the VIP area, where every celebrity, like Jon Bon Jovi, Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys and Bruce Springsteen, was seated," said a source.
"But somehow she thought she'd be up with the Obama family. When she realised she wasn't, she bailed."
Carey previously described Obama's win as an "incredible achievement" that would give the US a "feeling of hope".
