TalkTalk broadband customers from across the country have been experiencing difficulties with browsing and TalkTalk email since Friday.

The problems began with a power outage at the firm's servers in Manchester on Friday.

Problems in scattered areas continue, with the firm discovering today that it had been blacklisted from a number of popular sites including Hotmail.

The company says it is working to resolve the issues.

The principal problem is for users of TalkTalk email addresses, with problems ranging from difficulty in logging in to emails that do not get delivered for a number of hours or even days.

The service disruptions are not across the entire TalkTalk customer base but are localised to particular telephone exchanges that are scattered around the UK, says TalkTalk spokesperson Mark Schmid.

Why that is the case, however, is still under investigation, and Mr Schmid is unclear how many people in total may be affected.

What is more, a number of popular sites have been "blacklisted" at some point during the service disruption, so that some TalkTalk customers may find they cannot visit the sites PayPal, eBay, and Hotmail.com or Hotmail.co.uk.

For a forum

Susie Jolly is a TalkTalk customer from East London who has been experiencing problems since Friday evening.

"It looks as if 'Send and Receive' is OK, but then on Sunday you notice you're getting emails that were sent on Thursday," Ms Jolly told BBC News.

"I got emails this morning that were sent on Sunday."

She said sending emails to herself from her account took four or five hours to arrive. She had no trouble accessing PayPal and eBay, however.

"I then discovered the TalkTalk Members Forum, and it's absolutely inundated with people, including business customers, talking about this."

Mr Schmid says that engineers are investigating the issues.

"We're hoping that normal service will be resumed today but we can't put a final end time on it," he said.
