The bells at a historic church are to be rung for the first time in 30 years - then turned into a mobile phone ringtone.

St John the Baptist Church in Avon Dassett, Warwickshire, has not been used for regular services for 25 years.

But its spire has been restored recently thanks to a £700,000 grant from the Churches Conservation Trust, reports the Daily Telegraph.

The 110-year-old bells will ring out on Saturday, February, 21, as part of celebrations to mark the 40th anniversary of the trust.

Trust staff plan to record the chime of the bells, then turn the sound into a ringtone that can be downloaded to phones from www.visitchurches.org.uk

St John the Baptist is just one of a number of disused churches up and down the country where bells will be rung on February 21.

Loyd Grossman, who is chairman of the the Churches Conservation Trust, said: "The aim of the Birthday Bells Appeal is to enable people to discover historic churches near to them and find out how these spaces can be enjoyed and used all year round."
