Hillary Clinton has said that China and the US could help lead the world to economic recovery by working together.

Mrs Clinton was speaking in Beijing on the last stop of our Asian tour, her first trip abroad since becoming US Secretary of State.

When Hillary Clinton visited Beijing as first lady she strongly criticised china's human rights record.
However that was well before the current financial crisis and the need to involve China in one of the Obama administrations key goals, tackling climate change.

Today Mrs Clinton said she wants to deepen and broaden the US relationship with China.

She thanked Beijing for its continued confidence in US debt, China is the larges holder of treasury bonds, and said the two countries would co-operate on a range of issues from the economy to climate change to North Korea.

China's foreign minister Yang Jiechi said he and Mrs Clinton had agreed to reject trade and investment protectionism, a major concern for China whose export industries are suffering due to falling US demand.
