The 63-year-old Oscar-winner is in Israel this week shooting the final scenes of The Debt.
She plays a retired Mossad femme fatale forced to make amends after bungling the capture of a German war criminal.
"There's a lot of psychological depth and she (Mirren) is tackling this film in an intensive manner," a production source said.
The Debt is an English-language remake of a 2007 Israeli drama.
Filming also took place in Britain and Hungary, the source said.
