'EastEnders' star June Brown has become the first soap actress in over 20 years to be nominated for a BAFTA award.
She is joined on the shortlist by Anna Maxwell Martin ('Poppy Shakespeare'), Maxine Peake ('Hancock and Joan') and Andrea Riseborough ('Margaret Thatcher: The Long Walk to Finchley').
The last soap actress to be shortlisted for a BAFTA was Jean Alexander in 1987 for her role as Hilda Ogden in 'Coronation Street'.
The nominees for Best Actor are: Stephen Dillane ('The Shooting of Thomas Hurndall'), Jason Isaacs ('The Curse of Steptoe'), Ken Stott ('Hancock and Joan') and Ben Whishaw ('Criminal Justice').
'EastEnders' is also nominated in the Continuing Drama Serial Category, along with 'The Bill', 'Casualty' and 'Emmerdale'.
'Doctor Who', 'Shameless', 'Spooks' and 'Wallander' are shortlisted for Best Drama Series, with 'Einstein and Eddington', 'Hancock and Joan', 'The Shooting of Thomas Hurndall' and 'White Girl' nominated for Best Single Drama.
'Criminal Justice', 'Dead Set', 'The Devil's Whore' and 'House of Saddam' are nominated for Best Drama Serial, with 'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart', 'Dexter', 'Mad Men' and 'The Wire' nominated for the International award.
Stephen Fry ('QI'), Harry Hill ('Harry Hill's TV Burp'), Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly ('I'm a Celebrity... Get Me out of Here!') and Jonathan Ross ('Friday Night with Jonathan Ross') are the nominees for Best Entertainment Performance.
The nominees for Best Comedy Performance are: Rob Brydon ('Gavin & Stacey'), Sharon Horgan ('Pulling'), David Mitchell ('Peep Show') and Claire Skinner ('Outnumbered').
In the other comedy categories 'Harry and Paul', 'The Peter Serafinowicz Show', 'Star Stories' and 'That Mitchell and Webb Look' are nominated for Best Comedy Programme, with 'The Inbetweeners', 'The IT Crowd', 'Outnumbered' and 'Peep Show' nominated for Best Situation Comedy.
'Friday/Sunday Night Project', 'Harry Hill's TV Burp' 'QI' and 'The X Factor' are shortlisted for Best Entertainment Programme, with 'The Apprentice', 'Celebrity MasterChef', 'The Choir: Boys Don't Sing' and 'Top Gear' the nominees for the Features award.
