A BROADMOOR patient tried to SAW OPEN a nurse’s throat in a bid to become as infamous as the Yorkshire Ripper.

Twisted Alex Candiotis, 23, allegedly sneaked up at 3am as the man watched television in the top-security hospital.

He is said to have stabbed his face, then sawed at his throat with shards from smashed CD cases bound together with a sock.

Other staff heard screams and grabbed Candiotis. The victim was rushed to hospital for stitches. The wound had just missed his jugular.
Charge

Candiotis allegedly left three letters in his room — to other nurses, police and the judge he expected to try him for murder.

A Broadmoor source said: He said he wanted to be notorious like the Yorkshire Ripper or one of the big names inside here.

Everything he intended to do was spelled out in the letters.

Candiotis — locked up indefinitely in 2006 after being charged with robbery — had been taken OFF the hospital’s high-risk register two days earlier.

He has been moved to a more secure unit. Police are to charge him with attempted murder.

Broadmoor confirmed a patient had attacked a member of staff.

Ripper Peter Sutcliffe — who murdered 13 women — is held at the hospital in Crowthorne, Berks.
