Grammy-winning R&B producer Dallas Austin, who has worked with Michael Jackson and Madonna, has pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine in Dubai.

The 34-year-old, who has also produced songs for TLC, Pink and Sugababes, appeared in court on Sunday, the Associated Press news agency said.

He told the judge he had made a mistake and did not mean to break the law in the United Arab Emirates.

He could face up to four years in jail when he is sentenced on Tuesday.

Mr Austin was arrested at Dubai airport last month and has pleaded guilty to possessing 1.26 grams of cocaine.

Mr Austin, from Columbus, Georgia, made his name producing hits for Boyz II Men and won a Grammy for best R&B album in 1999 for producing TLC's Fanmail.

He worked with Madonna on her 1994 hit Secret and with Michael Jackson on his 1996 single They Don't Care About Us.
