LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Kent Alterman, director of the Will Ferrell basketball comedy "Semi-Pro," is attached to direct and develop the grown-up adventure tale "Treehouse Gang."
The Warner Bros./Heyday Films project is based on Timothy Dowling's spec script, which centers on a group of six childhood friends who get together in their late 20s for a treasure hunt that echoes the hunts of their youth. In the process they explore longtime friendships and grudges.
Those familiar with the project have described it as a grown-up version of "The Goonies."
Alterman is a former New Line executive who oversaw and served as executive producer on a slew of the studio's hits, including "Elf" and "A History of Violence." He made his directorial debut with 2008's "Semi-Pro." Alterman also counts the TV series "Strangers with Candy" among his credits.
