Know what's fun? When a production company tries to sell its film by reminding us of its unstoppable awfulness. It' doesn't happen all that often, but yesterday I received an email from the production company behind a new action flm called Royal Kill -- and the email was basically a miniature press release about a powerfully negative Washington Post review of Royal Kill. (The film was shot in D.C., which probably explains why it opened -- and got reviewed -- there).

I'll include the rest of the awesome press release after the jump, but here's the gist: According to the IMDb, Royal Kill packs a cast list that includes Eric Roberts, "Lalaine," Wrestlemania's Gail Kim, and the late Pat Morita as "exhibition manager." Apparently it's just a really rotten low-budget action flick, and Dan Zak's Post review certainly doesn't inspire a lot of interest, but to get a publicity release that's sort of proud of the critical bashing? Now that's weird. But hey, whatever helps you land a home video deal, right? After the jump, take note of how the hard-working publicist tries to assert that "bad movie" automatically qualifies you for Ed Wood-style cult status. Ha.

Punishment gluttons, here's the Royal Kill website!

"PAT MORITA CULT-FILM WASHINGTON POST DOES NOT WANT YOU TO SEE"

Los Angeles, CA - April 11, 2009 – Washington Post staff writer Dan Zak titled his recent movie review: "Royal Kill? Nah, It's More Like a Royal Pain" is sure to help bring the independent film to the cult status. "Royal Kill needs to be seen to be believed, but don't see it, under any circumstances" is the verdict. The film, which opened April 10th in select AMC Theatres in the Los Angeles, Washington DC, and Chicago areas and will continue its run until April 16th, proves that small projects can leave a gigantic impression.

The star-power pushing this film sets it apart from other cult status films. Beloved Oscar-nominated actor for his role of Mr. Miyagi in The Karate Kid, Pat Morita, Oscar-nominated Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight), co-star of the record-breaking Disney TV show "Lizzy McGuire" Lalaine and WWE Wrestlemania's Gail Kim rounds out the cast.

The review is followed by various users comments, stating amongst others that Royal Kill "sounds like ed wood is still making movies. Is this one bad enough [to] be good someday, like plan 9 from outer space?" Plan 9 From Outer Space is arguably the king of cult films directed by Ed Wood whom Johnny Depp portrayed in the film Ed Wood directed by Tim Burton as a salute to cult films.
