LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – "Watchmen" co-writer Alex Tse will tackle the adaptation of "Battling Boy," a Paramount project based on an upcoming graphic novel written and illustrated by Paul Pope.

The story line follows the son of a god who comes down from the top of a mountain at his father's urging to rid the giant, continent-sized city of Monstropolis of a plague of beasts.

Tse also has two projects at Warner Bros. -- a live-action adaptation of "Ninja Scroll" and "The Illustrated Man," an adaptation of Ray Bradbury stories.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Screenwriter Mark Bomback has been hired to adapt "The Umbrella Academy," a Dark Horse comic created by My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way and set up at Universal Pictures.

The Umbrella Academy is a group of disbanded superheroes who reunite after the death of their adoptive father, Sir Reginald Hargreeves, an alien disguised as a wealthy entrepreneur. Hargreeves collected the members of the group shortly after their birth and trained them to save the world, and after his death, they carry on his plan.

The Eisner Award-winning comic first came out as a six-issue miniseries in 2007. A second miniseries is in the works.

Bomback's writing credits include the DC Comics adaptation "Constantine," "Live Free or Die Hard" and "Race to Witch Mountain."
