A Florida man said he is offering a reward "in the thousands" for the return of a $375,000 diamond ring he dropped from a pier.

Robert Gismondi said the ring, which bears a large orange diamond and a white gold band, slipped off his finger during the weekend while he was on the Main Street Pier in Daytona Beach, WKMG-TV, Orlando, Fla., reported Wednesday.

"I reached into my pocket to pull out a cell phone and when I pulled my hand out the ring just slipped right off, bounced and fell right in," Gismondi said.

He said the ring has been in his family for two generations.

"I was devastated. We ran back and got the guy that worked at the pier and we told him what happened," he said.

Gismondi said he is offering a reward "in the thousands" for anyone who discovers the ring and his insurance company is planning to send dive teams to search for the item.
