Thespian Patrick Stewart upset fans following a theatre performance in Scotland by launching a foul-mouthed tirade at a man who allegedly took a picture of him onstage, according to reports.

The actor is currently taking part in a touring production of Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot alongside his X-Men co-star Sir Ian McKellan.

And after a performance in Edinburgh, Scotland earlier this week (beg13Apr09), the star is said to have accosted an autograph hunter outside the King's Theatre, accusing him of using a camera during the performance.

A source tells Scotland's Daily Record newspaper, "There were at least 40 people waiting for autographs and this guy had a big camera and was waiting at the front of the queue. The woman with the guy was getting her programme signed. Stewart suddenly looked up and said, 'Are you the a**ehole who was sitting at the front tonight? You know, what I really want to know is how you can sleep at night? I really.hope you're pleased with yourself.'

"The woman looked horrified and clearly upset and walked off but the guy brassed (braved) it out. Someone said he tried to take a sneaky picture of McKellan and Stewart taking their encore at the end of the show."

A spokeswoman for the theatre confirmed the actors had complained about snappers in the audience, adding, "We have received a number of complaints from performers and audience. It is disappointing that these people are willing to risk ruining the evening for everyone else."
