Back in February, Namco Bandai surprisingly removed Splatterhouse from developer BottleRocket, and handed the work-in-progress to their Afro Samurai team to complete. And in yet another surprising turn of events, Namco has re-hired some of BottleRocket's former developers to help finish the title at a new San Diego office.

Variety's The Cut Scene blog first broke the story, reporting that, according to a source "close to the project," about 10-20 former BottleRocket developers had been re-hired by Namco Bandai. A BottleRocket representative confirmed the news to Joystiq, saying that, "It is my understanding that Namco only offered contracts, not full-time employment." The representative wouldn't, however, confirm the exact number of developers that had been brought back in to finish the project.

Namco originally took the project away from BottleRocket over what they enigmatically claimed was a "performance issue." Exactly what that issue was remains unexplained, but clearly it must not have had to do with the developers themselves who were working on the game. BottleRocket, for their part, defended the work they had done on the game, with a representative saying they missed no contractually obligated milestones at any time during its 18-month development process. "So either there were no performance issues during that timeframe or Namco's management of the title was inept," the rep searingly said.
