TNA Epics TV Report
Airing May 22nd, 2009
Report by Garrett Kidney, PWInsider

Mick Foley welcomed us to TNA Epics and quickly introduced the opening match (this weeks theme is the greatest X-Division title matches): AJ Styles vs. Jerry Lynn vs. Psicosis vs. Low-Ki in the first ever TNA X-Division title match from TNA's second ever show.

This match is contested under double elimination rules ie. you must be pinned twice to be eliminated. Styles and Psicosis started things off as Lynn and Ki sat on the outside. After some chain and a missed top rope legdrop by Psicosis, Styles beat Psicosis with the Styles Clash. Low Ki was in next and Styles eventually finished him off with a German Suplex into a sit out facebuster. Lynn came in and quickly beat a worn down Styles with a Cradle Piledriver. Psicosis came back in and we went to an ad break.

Coming back, Psicosis had been beaten and eliminated during the break before Lynn eliminated Low-Ki with the Cradle Piledriver. Styles and Lynn were the final two and the match really picked up from here. Lynn hit a huge sitout powerbomb for a near fall. Styles took a fall against Lynn with the Styles Clash and the next fall won the title. It went to a break here but came straight back, it was most likely edited to fit both matches in the one hour. Lynn had some really close near falls off a powerbomb facebuster and a Brainbuster before Styles won with a Spiral Tap. This was a really great match that picked up in a big way when it came to down to Styles and Lynn (who have fantastic chemistry together).

After the break Mick Foley talked about the great X-Division wrestlers - Styles, Daniels Joe and Shark Boy. He said he was joking about Shark Boy then apologized to Sharky before introducing the Epics main event from Unbreakable 2005 for the X-Division championship - AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe vs. Champion Christopher Daniels.

When the words epic and TNA are said this match immediately comes to mind. It is without a doubt the best match that TNA have ever had in their near seven year history. I'm only going to go through the major moves of this match because if I went through it move for move you'd be reading for a long time. JB made the official introductions and the match started with both Styles and Joe kicking Daniels before going at it with each other. Daniels hit a bulldog/enziguiri combo on Styles and Joe before going to a break and coming straight back again. Joe hit a Belly to Belly on Styles into the corner. Daniels nailed Joe with his Slingshot Moonsault to the outside before AJ hit both of them with a Springboard Shooting Star Press. Daniels monkey flipped Styles out of the corner and Styles went over into an insane hurancanrana on Joe. Joe locked on the Coquina Clutch on Daniels but Styles broke it up with a Spiral Tap.

Straight back after the break saw Joe hit a Corkscrew Suicide Dive on Styles and Daniels. Styles and Daniels battled on the top when Joe dumped them both over head with back body drops. Joe hit the Muscle Buster on Styles, Daniels tried to hit Joe with the X title but Joe hit with a powerslam, Joe picked up the title but Daniels enziguiried the title into Joe's face. Daniels hit the BME on AJ and hit the Last Rites on Joe but couldn't get a pin on either. Styles got Joe in a Torture Rack and swung him into a powerbomb for a near fall. Styles hit the Styles Clash on Daniels but Joe broke up the pin. Finish came when Daniels went for the Angels Wings but Styles back tossed him but held on for the pin.

Closing Thoughts: This is an absolutely unbelievable match that just cannot be missed. Even though the first match is a really great match it is eclipsed massively by the three way. Remember that there is much more in that three way than above, too much to describe. Another fantastic show that really shows off how good TNA can be.

Next week's Epics follows a Slammiversary theme and features AJ Styles and Christopher vs. AMW, Road Warrior Animal and Rick Steiner vs. Team 3D and Kurt Angle vs. AJ Styles.
