Sri Lanka enter Super Eight and wrap up Australia's ICC World T20 campaign with a comfortable six-wicket victory.

Riding on Kumar Sangakkara's half-century, Sri Lanka beat Australia confortably. In the process, they end the reigning 50-over version World Champions' run in the tournament.

After their seven-wicket defeat against West Indies at The Oval, Australia are in a do-or-die situation against Sri Lanka, who won the toss and elected to field in the Group C match at Trent Bridge. Brett Lee drew the first blood for Australia by getting Sanath Jayasuriya caught by David Warner.

Michael Clarke accounted for second Sri Lankan wicket by bowling out Tillakaratne Dilshan.

Nathan Bracken caught Mahela Jayawardene off Nathan Hauritz for his side's third wicket.

Lee found his second victim in Chamara Silva. Ricky Ponting caught the Sri Lankan off the speedster.

Earlier, with the help of Ajantha Mendis and Lasith Malinga's three-wicket haul each, Sri Lanka restricted Australia to 159/9.

First opener David Warner fell victim to Bangladesh's Angelo Mathews off the very first over and Dilsahn was all attention to catch him out.

Then Ajantha Mendis made quick work of skipper Ricky Ponting by bowling a superb one to him and getting his leg stump.

Australia all-rounder Shane Watson got his leg in the wrong spot as Mendis struck again for Sri Lanka.

Lasith Malinga scalped up the fourth victim for his side when he bowled out Brad Haddin.

Clarke followed shortly. Isuru Udana caught him off his own delivery.

Asutralia's sixth wicket fell in Mike Hussey as Mendis accounted for his third one.

Udana made David Hussey follow his brother back by making him hit one to Sanath Jayasuriya's safe hands.

Malinga scalped up two in the next over. First he bowled Brett Lee out and then Kumara Sangakkara caught Nathan Hauritz two balls later.

If Australia lose to Lanka, their Ashes summer will begin with an ignominious early exit from what has quickly become established as a prestigious global tournament.

Australia, however, are renowned for their ability to overcome setbacks at the start of high-profile campaigns.
