Ivan B. sent along the following:

I am attending a WWE house show here in San Diego, CA. and I just witnessed Edge get injured during his match with Jeff Hardy.

He was running towards Jeff and appeared to have either twisted or even broken his ankle. His foot was in a very awkward position. The match was immediatley stopped.

EMTs came running to attend him and he was helped out of the ring. He even took the time to take the mic and say "sorry" to the fans.

Damn, that is bad. I love the promos that Edge can pull and this is terrible for the tag team with Him and Jericho.

Hopefully it's nothing serious, unless he totally broke it or tore something he shouldn't have to take time off.

I hope its not an Achilles injury, if it is, he's going to be out for awhile.
Edge is one of my favorites, I hope it is nothing serious.

EDIT:UPDATE

Just as I feared, it is an Achilles injury...

It has been confirmed that WWE tag champion Edge suffered a torn Achilles tendon in a match against Jeff Hardy at a WWE house show on Friday.

As we reported earlier, the injury can take up to six months to heal following surgery. The first two months of recovery will likely be spent in a cast for the former WWE Champion.

Edge Factoring in the recovery period, Edge will likely be off of WWE TV until sometime around the Royal Rumble... but what a return that would make

The Edge ankle injury is a torn Achilles heel tendon, something that depending on the severity, could keep him out of the ring
until January 2010.

Obviously, WWE is going to have to figure out a plan to move the Unified Tag titles off of Edge and Chris Jericho shortly

This....just sucks. I hear they plan on moving the titles to Legacy, I just hope they don't do the usual "Champ must vacate due to injury so let's have a tourney" crap. I'd love to see some kind of swerve, like have Christian turn heel and take Edge's place....to me that would be amazing.

PWMania.com reader Paul sent the following last night:

It appears Edge may have injured his leg during his match with Jeff Hardy at tonight’s house show. After four or five minutes of drawing audience participation, including Edge pretending to slip off the ropes the two performers finally engaged in a collar and elbow tie up. Shortly after Edge charged Hardy into a corner of ring where Edge went down. It’s unclear why he went down or what part of his leg was injured, but the match immediately stopped without any further interaction from the two wrestlers. Referee Charles Robinson threw up the “X” arm signal and the bell rang, awarding Jeff the victory due to Edge not being able to continue. There was a thought that this was a horribly booked work, but Edge even grabbed the mic and apologized to the crowd saying, “Sorry.” Apologizing, of course is not typical of a major heel. The match ended with almost no action what so ever and Edge needed assistance back to the locker room.

An interesting bit of info: This is the 3rd consecutive San Diego event where a superstar was injured.

-Edge, of course tonight
-Evan Bourne injured his ankle at the 10/28 Smackdown taping, that was the Halloween edition of SD
-Randy Orton broke his collar bone at the June 2008 Extreme Rules PPV in San Diego against HHH in a Last Man Standing match.

A decision on how to explain the injury sustained by Edge at last night's WWE house show in San Diego will be made by the company prior to July 13th, which is the next live television taping. A decision will also be made before that taping on what to do with the WWE Unified tag-team titles, which Edge currently co-owns with Chris Jericho
.

As we noted in an earlier report, the titles will probably be switched to Legacy's Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes. Because Edge appears in a match already taped for the July 10th WWE SmackDown!, it is doubtful the company will be mentioning anything about the titles until after that show airs, unless it's a note on WWE.com or something along those lines.

The injury Edge suffered, which is a torn Achilles tendon, generally requires surgery with about eight months - possibly longer - for recuperation. If that is how things play out for Edge, he'll be on the sidelines until potentially March of 2010. The same injury has ended the careers of a lot of pro athletes apparently, although it probably won't be career-threatening for Edge as once recovered you lose some speed
, which isn't as big a deal to a top wrestler as it would be a football player, etc. [credit: f4wonline.com]

That sucks - I feel bad for Edge... Such a lousy time for him to be injured, as he is one of the few reasons Smackdown is worth watching right now, and to be out for so long as well...

Mark Carpowich's original report of the injury from the San Diego WWE event reads:

The final match before intermission was Edge versus Jeff Hardy. Edge jawjacked with fans along the aisle as he approached the ring, even tearing up a sign along the way. He also repeated the same spot three times before the match got started - standing on the ropes, then pretending to slip off - with decreasing humor every time. Almost immediately after the bout started, however, Edge went down with what appeared to be an injury to his left ankle. Edge was standing in the corner, and when Hardy charged at him, Edge tried to leapfrog him and came down wrong on his leg. Interestingly, Steamboat's injury earlier in the evening (which at first appeared legit, until McIntyre started working on it) happened the exact same way. As Hardy backed off, the ref gave the "X" signal, and Justin Roberts announced that because Edge could not continue, Hardy was the winner. As two referees helped him to the back, Edge grabbed the house mic and simply said "sorry" to the fans.<

It is really bad for him, but I wouldn't say he's one of the "few" reasons to watch Smackdown, which is easily the most entertaining show in the WWE due to many different wrestlers, not just Edge. Hell, Punk and Hardy have been carrying the show this past month, not Edge.
