Downloadable characters were apparently part of the original plan for Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, but series co-creator Ed Boon confirmed on his Twitter page this morning that those plans have since been scrapped. He also offered a peek at what could have been by posting the above in-game image of Mortal Kombat mainstay Quan Chi -- now destined to wait until the next MK for his shot at a current-gen debut.
It probably shouldn't come as much as a surprise that the developers at Midway won't be following through with their DLC plans for MK vs. DC Universe. In the tumultuous half-a-year following the crossover fighter's release, Midway has since filed for bankruptcy and will soon be owned by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Not only that, but Ed Boon has also been discussing the development of Mortal Kombat 9 for quite some time now -- likely a more worthwhile focus for the team than updates to last year's game.
