Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince has cast a spell worldwide - taking in more than £66 million in its first day of release.
The film hit theatres on Wednesday (15Jul09) and midnight screenings alone in the U.S. scooped £14.8 million, scoring the best opening night gross of all time.
The sixth movie in the boy wizard franchise saw U.S. takings almost triple for the whole day, garnering £38.8 million.
The latest instalment, which stars Daniel Radcliffe as Potter, took £30.6 million from the rest of the world - taking its first day opening to £69 million.
The film also scored the third-highest opening day record of all time in the U.K. and Australia, grossing £5 million and £2.9 million respectively.
