f you've downloaded the WiiWare version of Tales of Monkey Island, you may have noticed that it has a few framerate issues. Some of the problems can be attributed to heavy compression, but one Telltale representative thinks that there's a larger issue at work.
"The voices and textures are the way they are because we're limited to 40 megs for WiiWare titles. The PC versions of our games are usually 150+ megs, and most modern games range anywhere from 1-10 gigabytes or more. Talk to Nintendo about this one," a Telltale programmer under the name of Yare wrote on the official forums (via GameZine).

"Frame rate issues will probably get sorted out eventually, but keep in mind that the Wii is just not a powerful console. An iPhone is much more powerful than a Wii, even."

According to the programmer, "the extra RAM is really what makes the difference." The Wii has 88 megabytes of RAM, but a "not insignificant chunk" of it is always in use by OS, and thus not available to developers.

"I stand by [my comments]," he said. "The Wii and DS are extremely underpowered and their popularity doesn't remove the hardware limitations."

Tales of Monkey Island arrived on the Wii earlier this week. It's also available on the PC.
