The 41-year-old actor is very proud of the film - in which he plays a librarian who involuntarily travels through time - but admits some of the in-depth emotional scenes went over his head.

He explained: "Male friendship is based on a shared experience rather than talking. If I get together with my mates - friends that my wife knows very well - I'll come home and the day she'll ask, 'How's so and so?' And I'll say, 'He's good!' and she'll say, 'What did you talk about?' and I honestly don't remember.

"We just got together, we had a drink, we smoked a cigar, you know. Yeah, we talked about other stuff as well, but remembering it isn't the point!

"It's like football. I've got regular seats and most of the people in the area where I sit are regulars. We all know each other, we get together every week for two and a half hours, we yell, we scream obscenities at other teams, and we have these long conversations but we don't even know each other's names!"
