Sony has officially dropped a new set of WipEout HD in-game advertisements that had been extending load times, a mere 24 hours after they were first announced.
"The ad has been removed from WipEout HD and we are investigating the situation to ensure that any in-game advertising does not affect gameplay," a Sony representative told Eurogamer.
The advertisements were part of a deal between Sony and ad agency Double Fusion, which implemented dynamic video advertising into the loading screens. Not long after they appeared though, users began to document instances of load times being nearly doubled.
Double Fusion is working with Sony to launch in-game ads in a "handful of PlayStation 3 titles," with CEO Jonathan Epstein saying that they are "responding to advertiser demand and offering an engaging ad format while pushing in-game ad innovation to a new level."
Before that happens though, they have a few more kinks to work out.
