The residents of the impressively named Grand Avenue, in the leafy Surrey town of Camberley, have been thrust into the spotlight as England's nosiest neighbours.

Property price comparison site zoopla.co.uk found that home-owners on the street were more likely than anyone else to check out the value of their neighbours' homes.

The site's co-founder Alex Chesterman told the Daily Telegraph that the internet makes it easy to become a "virtual curtain-twitcher".

"Home owners are increasingly monitoring their neighbours' house values," he added, "either looking for reassurance that their own property's value hasn't fallen by as much or taking some comfort in the knowledge that they are not alone. Misery loves company."

However, people remain reluctant to admit their curiosity. Only 42% of people questioned in a survey admitted to looking up the price of neighbouring houses on the internet.

The nosiest parkers can be found in affluent parts of London and the south-east. They're four times more likely to check prices than people in the north-east, who were found to be the least nosy.
