Amateur boxer John "King" Abbey, 26, was with his three-year-old daughter at a bus stop when Charles Acquaah, 22, knifed him in the heart.

He died an hour later at the Mayday Hospital in Croydon, south London - where his partner had given birth earlier that day.

Acquaah, of Greenside Road, Croydon, will be sentenced on Friday after being found guilty of murder by an Old Bailey jury.

Brian Altman QC, prosecuting, said there had been trouble between the two Ghanaian men in the months leading up to Mr Abbey's death.

They had met by chance at the bus stop in London Road, Croydon and an argument broke out, the court heard. But witnesses said Mr Abbey did not strike any blows against Acquaah, who had gone there carrying a knife.

Jurors heard Mr Abbey had boxed for Ghana in the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester and remained in the UK.

Detective Chief Inspector Cliff Lyons, who led the investigation, said it was a "sad and shocking case", describing the killer as "heartless and spiteful".
