Around 400 guests - rumoured to include the likes of Kate Moss, Cheryl Cole and Sir Elton John - are expected at Wrotham Park in Hertfordshire.

The black tie bash is reportedly costing £1 million to put on, and pictures show the venue with a huge marquee in the grounds.

Several of X Factor judge Cowell's acts are said to be performing, including Leona Lewis and Il Divo. Other attractions reportedly include troupes of dancing girls and a Frank Sinatra-style singer.

One of the main organisers is reputedly Lady Tina Green, wife of retail billionaire Sir Philip Green.

Multi-millionaire Cowell, who actually turns 50 on Wednesday, is in talks with Sir Philip over creating a new global entertainment business.

Palladian mansion Wrotham Park, which sits in 300 acres of parkland, bills itself as a private house of "outstanding quality".

Its website says: "The house is not open to the public and therefore offers clients exclusive and private use for their event."
