Middleweight slugger Scott Smith has just signed a new six-fight contract extension to remain with Strikeforce. According to his manager, Mike Roberts, Smith could be back in the cage as early as December.

Roberts notified AOL FanHouse regarding the deal, and expressed that they have already begun contemplating potential opponents.

Although Smith pulled out a gutsy KO win over Benji Radach at “Strikeforce: Shamrock vs. Diaz” this past April, Roberts stated that they would be down for a mulligan since their battle was one of the most violent scraps in Strikeforce history.

Smith was also losing much of that contest, however managed to come back from the brink of defeat to walk away with the miraculous W. Ever sine then, he’s been anxious to prove that it wasn’t a fluke and wouldn’t say ‘no’ if Radach was offered-up again.

MMA legend Frank Shamrock was also mentioned as a possible foe.

Smith was last seen getting subbed by Nick Diaz at “Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields” back in June. The loss knocked his record down to a respectable 16-6.

While Roberts and Smith are eying December as a return date, the organization has no plans on hosting a show in the year’s final month. So it looks like 2010 will be the next time MMA fans will see Mr. “Hands of Steel.”
