AN auction house in Chicago is auctioning off a lock of the King of Rock n' Roll's hair which was famously cut when he entered the US Army in 1958.

The auction house expects the bid for the hair to perhaps exceed $100,000.

The hair comes from the collection of Gary Pepper, a man with cerebral palsy that Elvis befriended. Pepper became the president of one of Presley's first fan clubs, and got plenty of memorabilia from Elvis himself.

Other items from the collection are expected to go on sale as well, including autographed records, photos and an ultra-suede red shirt Elvis wore.

The auction is scheduled for October 18 with a portion of the proceeds to be donated to charities.
