Web hosting firm Fasthosts will work with Microsoft to promote its WebsiteSpark scheme to boost the development of web applications.

WebsiteSpark is designed to help smaller firms embrace web tools and technology, and provides free access to Microsoft's web platform.

The programme provides a free copy of Microsoft's Server operating system, free licences for Microsoft Expression and Visual Studio, as well as training and access to MSDN newsgroups.

Microsoft estimates that it can save users over £240 a year in server licensing costs alone.

"WebsiteSpark is an excellent opportunity for smaller web agencies as it delivers exactly what they need most: free tools and practical help," said Steve Holford, chief marketing officer at Fasthosts.

"As hosting partner to thousands of web pros, Fasthosts is well qualified to advise participants on how to apply Windows hardware and development tools to best effect."

Once enrolled in the programme users gain access to Windows Expression Studio 2 (one user licence), Expression Web 2 (two user licences), Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition (three user licences) and a DotNetPanel control panel.

Fasthosts' system ranges from an 80GB disk space version which costs £39 a month plus VAT, to 1,000GB which costs £149 a month plus VAT. All servers feature root admin access and a remote KVM connection.

"Getting the right platform in place frees up creative professionals to focus on creating amazing campaigns. Microsoft technology offers some of the most exciting functionality on the market," added Holford.
