Koscheck is hoping that a victory over Pierce will get him closer to a rematch with UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.
“Bad news! Not fighting matt Hughes :( but the good news is…. I’ll be wipping GSP’s ass real soon!!,” Koscheck tweeted before confirming the bout with Pierce.
This is an imperative contest for Koscheck, who has gone a mundane 2-2 over his last four bouts. There’s a significant difference between going 3-2 and 2-3 in the UFC’s deep welterweight division, but the bad news is the organization didn’t do him any favors by pitting him against a confident Pierce.
Pierce holds an impressive 10-1 record and is enjoying a six-fight winning streak. He pulled off an impressive unanimous decision upset win over Brock Larson at UFC Fight Night 19 last month.
UFC Fight Night 20 is rumored to be taking place on January 11, 2010 from the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia. The event will be broadcast live on Spike TV.
