Will Young has claimed the X Factor contestants do not sing live when they perform together as a group.
The former Pop Idol winner, who helped Cheryl Cole pick her final three acts this year, defended the Girls Aloud singer over recent criticism that she allegedly mimed part of her performance of her new single on the ITV1 show.
Will said: "I think there's a very mixed reaction to different people whether they mime or sing live, some people get away with it - I'm not entirely convinced the contestants sing live on the Sunday shows in the group thing but people don't comment on that."
He added: "I think Cheryl can do no wrong in my eyes. So it's just different people for different things.
"But Cheryl did a great performance. I don't think it really matters. It's showbiz."
A spokeswoman for The X Factor did not confirm whether the contestants sang live during the group song.
She said: "They perform it live. They do sing live on the solo songs."
