A prisoner in Dorset is thought to have disguised a four-foot-tall cannabis bush as a tomato plant for months - even putting Christmas tree decorations on it.
The convicted drug dealer grew the alleged class B pot plant at Verne Prison in Portland, Dorset, before staff eventually became suspicious and sent it off for testing last week, the Dorset Echo reported.
A Prison Service spokesman said: 'Vigilant prison officers at HMP The Verne identified a plant in a cell which they believed to be cannabis. The plant was sent for testing.'
The spokesman added that no prisoner was arrested and any inmate found with drugs would be subject to disciplinary procedures.
'We take the problem of drugs in prisons very seriously and do everything possible to disrupt their demand and supply. Drug misuse in prisons has fallen 63% since 1996/97,' they said
Other inmates at the category C training jail, which holds 595 prisoners, also made two models out of matchsticks to hide items like mobile phones, which were later found during a routine search.
All the items were confiscated by prison officers.
