Injury setback for Scholes

Paul Scholes retired from international play, so the latest injury setback will not affect his participation in the World Cup.

MANCHESTER, England (AP) -- Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes was ruled out for the rest of the season on Tuesday because of an eye condition.

United also has lost Ireland defender John O'Shea for six weeks with a rib injury.

Scholes hasn't played since Dec. 28 because of blurred vision. It was initially reported that he was suffering from a bang on the head, but United said the former England international had a "non football related condition."

"Paul Scholes has a medical condition affecting the vision in his right eye," United said in a statement. "This has been confirmed by a number of specialists, who have all agreed that he needs to rest for a period of three months.".

United said it expects Scholes to return next season.

O'Shea was forced out of Sunday's 1-0 victory over Liverpool. The injury was initially sustained in last week's 5-0 FA Cup victory over Burton Albion.

Sucks that Scholes picked this up when he was getting back into form and also that John O'Shea has fractured ribs so will be out for a while aswel we have enough players to cover for them so isnt THAT bad.
