Orlando Bloom has suggested that he would be open to reprising the role of Legolas Greenleaf for the upcoming adaptation of The Hobbit.

The British actor, who shot to fame as the blond-haired elf in Peter Jackson's Lord Of The Rings trilogy, told MTV News that he had been in contact with Jackson about the fantasy prequel.

"I shot an e-mail to Pete and I said, 'You know, if you want me to don the blond wig and pointy ears again, I'd be honoured to do it'," he said.

When asked what the response had been, he joked: "He said - funnily enough - 'Well, we'll see'. They're very, very hush-hush."

He added: "It's [director] Guillermo's [Del Toro] movie and I'm a huge fan of that man. He's obviously going to take his own idea of it, but I'm excited for that movie. I think it's going to be great."

The release of the two-part Hobbit was recently delayed until 2012, with reports suggesting that New Line and Warner Bros wanted scripts for both movies before production commenced.
