Dead Or Alive: Paradise director Yoshinori Ueda has defended the game against claims that it is voyeuristic and degrading towards women.

In an interview with Eurogamer, the exec challenged the notion that the game is softcore porn, claiming that the developer's only intention was to create beautiful women.

"From our perspective, we're trying to make beautiful women, that has been the focus - we want our characters to be beautiful. The DoA characters are strong and that they look the way they do is based on trying to bring out the beauty of women.

"We're certainly not trying to degrade women. They have beautiful bodies. We're trying to show off the beauty of their bodies but we're not trying to be degrading about it - we're trying to show that they are beautiful characters."

Ueda's comments were a response to an ESRB description of the game, which said the game indulged in "creepy voyeurism" and had "bizarre, misguided notions of what women really want". However, the watchdog has since removed the description and issued an apology.

Dead Or Alive: Paradise arrives in Europe on April 2.
