Dixie Carter's husband Hal Holbrook has revealed her cause of death.
The actress, who was best known for her role as Julia Sugarbaker on the long-running sitcom Designing Women, died in a Houston hospital last Saturday.
On Sunday, Holbrook announced that Carter died from complications of endometrial cancer, a form of uterine cancer, the New York Times reports
The 70-year-old was scheduled to appear in a revival of George Bernard Shaw's Mrs Warren's Profession in Washington in June. Earlier last week, the Washington Post reported that Carter was recovering from surgery and would not be able to begin the rehearsal schedule for the play in May.
In addition to her husband, Carter is also survived by daughters Mary Dixie of Brooklyn and Ginna of Los Angeles.
