The rumors started just before midnight last night, and now, it appears that they're true. Peter Steele, the bassist and frontman for Brooklyn heavy metallers Type O Negative who also spent time in Carnivore and Fallout, reportedly passed away Wednesday (April 14) at the age of 48 from what's believed to be heart failure. Type O keyboardist confirmed Steele's death to Blabbermouth. An official cause of death has not yet been released.
Noisecreep could not confirm Steele's death with the band's management or label. Calls had not been returned by press time. But the band's Web site does indicate that fans can "expect statements from the band and family later today."
