Leonard Nimoy has revealed that he is permanently retiring from acting.

Speaking to The Toronto Star, the Star Trek actor said that he will give up working in TV and movies following his final appearance on Fox's Fringe.

"I've been doing this professionally for 60 years. I love the idea of going out on a positive note. I've had a great, great time," the 79-year-old explained.

Nimoy apparently won't be making an appearance in the planned Star Trek sequel. The actor said that he's leaving the role of Spock to Zachary Quinto.

"He's a terrific actor, he looks the part, and it's time to give him some space," Nimoy added.

"And I'm very flattered the character will continue."
