It appears fans have come one step closer to witnessing the biggest scrap in MMA history go down between UFC heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar and interim title holder Shane Carwin at UFC 116. Although the July 3rd unification bout has been rumored for quite some time, the pair signed their bout agreements last week and a formal announcement is expected within the coming weeks.

Lesnar and Carwin were initially slated to meet at UFC 106 last November, then again at UFC 108 in January, however Lesnar was forced out both times due to illness.

Lesnar was last seen annihilating Frank Mir at UFC 100 en route to unifying the heavyweight crown. After his dominating effort, Lesnar contracted mononucleosis and parlayed that into a severe case of of diverticulitis.

Although his life hung in the balance, Lesnar was able to make a "miraculous" recovery, however his extended leave forced the UFC to manufacture an interim belt.

Carwin gladly collected the crown by posting a first round TKO over Mir at UFC 111 last month. The part-time engineer is perfect through his first 12 MMA contests and has ended all of them violently in the first round.
