Say what you will about the decidedly kid-oriented Power Rangersfranchise, but it's made for some pretty enjoyable beat-em-up video games in console generations past. Hence our interest in Namco Bandai's recent decision to renew its partnership with Saban Brands to start making games based on the Mighty Morphin heroes once again.

According to Eurogamer, this collaboration was made possible by Saban's recent move to re-acquire the Power Rangers IP from Disney, which has owned the rights to the franchise since 2001, and has used it to launch like, a zillionspin-off series. We hope any games Namco Bandai creates under the partnership focuses on the original crew. You know, Zack, Kimberly, Trini ... the Red one, and ... the nerdy one. Also, the insufferable robot.

Saban Reacquires Power Rangers License, Inks Video Game Deal

With the Power Rangers license now back in the hands of Haim Saban, the door has been opened for new video games in the franchise thanks to a long-term deal with Namco Bandai.

Saban Brands acquired the Power Rangers brand from Disney, which picked up the license in its 2001 acquisition of Fox Family. Saban was responsible for bring the original show to North America in 1993.

"Power Rangers is one of the world's leading children's entertainment properties and we are delighted to see its return," said chairman Haim Saban.

"We are also very proud and excited to renew our long-standing partnership with Namco Bandai and know that this powerful combination of experience and capabilities will continue to support the global success of Power Rangers."

Power Rangers launched in 1993 and reached its peak in 1997. Namco Bandai subsidiary Banpresto developed the original Sega Genesis beat 'em up. The most recent game to come out of the franchise is Power Rangers: Super Legends, which was published by Disney Interactive in 2007.

The series joins Namco's fairly extensive portfolio of licensed Japanese action series, which includes Naruto, Dragon Ball Z and Mobile Suit Gundam. Power Rangers should fit right in.

No word yet on a new Power Rangers game, but don't be surprised if something is announced soon.
