In a search akin to an Ace Ventura film, the four detectives are carrying out a three-day search in the hope they can find Oliver, a four-year-old tabby cat.

The cat's owner, 56-year-old nurse Sue Machen, is so desperate for news that she is paying £1,000 for the investigation, which has seen the sleuths from Animal Search UK visit some 400 homes.

To help them with their search, the Herefordshire-based team have employed a psychic called Sarita Gupta, who is based in Bangalore, to help them find the cat who went missing from his home in the Lincolnshire village of Boothby Graffoe last October.

Ms Gupta has told the detectives Oliver has been adopted as a stray by a new family who did not know he already had a home.

Ten days ago, the team found a missing cat in Birmingham called Chiquitita in a Wendy house after being told by the same psychic he would turn up "where children play".

Tom Watkins, who is leading the search, hopes the publicity will mean Oliver's potential new owners recognise their recent addition to the family already has a home and come forward.

Mr Watkins said: "We have had some good publicity and we are building up a picture of where Oliver might be.

"We are hoping the psychic is right and we will receive a call about where Oliver is. That would be mission accomplished if we can achieve that."
