Demetri Demetriou, one half of Stavros Flatley, said he only entered the TV talent contest as a joke but has been amazed by their success.

The father and son comedy act had been up against singer Susan Boyle in last year's final.

"We were different, we knew we weren't going to win," Demetri told Sky News.

"We were resigned to the fact that Susan Boyle had 80 million hits. We just went to the final and enjoyed it."

"It was different for us because nobody sat down with us and said 'when you finish this show you are going to get all this work and be recognised wherever you go' so it was a nice surprise," he added.

Stavros Flatley have performed around the country and even entertained guests at Simon Cowell's birthday party last year.

And he had advice for this year's finalists.

"The one thing that everybody wants to do [on Britain's Got Talent] is share their talent. For us it was different, we went on the show for a gag," he said.

"It's a bit of fun, as long as you don't take it too seriously."
