Could classics like Nights and Burning Rangers be on the way?

SEGA skipped a generation when it went from offering Master System and Genesis titles on Virtual Console to offering Dreamcast titles on Xbox Live Arcade and PSN. But Saturn may still feature in the company's download plans.

Speaking with Impress Watch recently, Yosuke Okunari, producer on the Dreamcast remake/port projects, hinted that Saturn is under consideration. "We're not ignoring Saturn," he said, citing as an example SEGA's Japan-only PS2 remake of the original Nights Into Dreams. "It's not that we have no intention of porting Saturn titles, so please share you're requests."

The reason the company went with Dreamcast first, explained Okunari, is because the Dreamcast was more of a global hit than Saturn. SEGA's 32 bit system was a major flop outside of Japan. In Japan, however, it was a solid second place to PlayStation.

Okunari also provided hints at SEGA's upcoming plans for Dreamcast downloads. As previously announced, Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi come first. These games won't arrive simultaneously, but they'll both arrive in the fall.

Sega has already finalized its second set of titles, said Okunari. He wouldn't say what the are, but he did say that we can expect the next round to consist of games that are "representative of the Dreamcast."

From Jet Grind Radio to (dare we even suggest it!) Chu Chu Rocket, we can think of a number of Dreamcast games that fit that bill. Let's hope the wait for confirmation on these and maybe even some Saturn games isn't too long.
