The Prime Minister and his wife have named their new daughter Florence Rose Endellion - using a Cornish word as one of her middle names.

Endellion refers to the Cornish village of St Endellion, close to where David and Samantha Cameron are holidaying with their family.

The village is situated just inland of Port Quin and about seven miles north of Wadebridge.

Mr Cameron had earlier said he and his wife were consulting books on baby names and "will have to have something Cornish in there somewhere".

The baby arrived two weeks early, while the couple were on holiday near Truro.

But instead of raking in money on monikers linked to local beauty spots such as the river Tamar, bookmakers had predicted the Camerons would make a traditional choice for the first name.

Within hours of the birth of the couple's fourth child, William Hill was offering odds of 2/1 on Marnie, 3/1 on Enid and 3/1 on Agnes.

Margaret, a possible tribute to Lady Thatcher, was at 50/1.

Spokesman Graham Sharpe said punters were also backing a range of Cornish names including Tegen, Bryher, Demelza, Meryn, Tamsin and Rosevear.

According to Ladbrokes, Isabella, Olivia and Emma were among the most likely options.

They were also taking bets on showbiz choices, including Cheryl (33/1), Angelina (40/1) and Beyonce (150/1).

Mrs Cameron was whisked to the hospital on Tuesday morning and the 6lb 1oz baby was delivered by Caesarean section at around midday.

The Prime Minister said he was the "proud dad" of an "unbelievably beautiful" daughter. He praised NHS staff for their support during the "nerve-wracking" early delivery.

He said the baby's older siblings, six-year-old Nancy and four-year-old Arthur Elwen, were "thrilled" and looking forward to meeting their new sister.

In February last year, the family were left devastated by the death of their eldest son, Ivan.

Mr Cameron is expected to take a few days off as paternity leave but is likely to be back at his desk by the end of next week.
