From across the country 3,000 18- to 35-year-olds were questioned about their health, fitness and beauty regimes, revealing a narrowing in the gender divide.

On average, men are now spending £11.72 a week on their appearance - £1 more than women.

These changes also extend further than increased expenditure on beauty products, with men now investing 25 minutes to get ready for work, only five minutes less than women.

The poll indicated that one in five men are moisturising and one in 20 are using hair straighteners.

But some stereotypes still hold firm. When it comes to getting ready for a night out women are way out in front, taking an average of 52 minutes to get ready compared to 29 minutes admitted to by men.

The survey was conducted by One Poll on behalf of sports nutrition company Multipower.
