This is Nick Knowledge reporting on Sunday night's Chikara debut in the New York City at The Warsaw in Greenpoint, Brooklyn for "Through Savage Progress Cuts The Jungle Vine". Chikara drew a standing room only crowd with several people turned back at the door.

The event started just after 4pm & ran until after 7pm (so just about 3 hrs).

Here are the results:

1. FIST (Chuck Taylor/Icarus/Johnny Gargano) vs. Soldier Ant/3.0 (Scott "Jagged" Parker/Shane Matthews) (12:06/Awful Waffle on Soldier)
•This opening contest was very good. 3.0 were replacing Fire Ant (who had 3 broken bones in his face) & Green Ant (who had a broken arm). There was plenty of comedy from 3.0, who I'm still adjusting to seeing as tecnicos (babyfaces). Chuck Taylor scored the win for his team in a very fun opener.

2. Hallowicked vs. UltraMantis Black (5:54/Angel's Wings)
•The story here was UltraMantis trying to convince Hallowicked to join his team for the annual cibernetico event in Nov. This match ended rather abruptly with UltraMantis hitting a variation of the Angel's Wings.

3. Osirian Portal (Amasis/Ophidian) vs. Delirious/Daizee. Haze (11:48/double pin on Daizee)
•To my surprise, this match nearly stole the show. There was nonstop action from start to finish with Daizee standing out as especially vicious. This might have been her breakthrough match on the indies. She seems better suited against men as she mainly looked against most women. There were plenty of nearfalls in this one. The Osirian Portal hit their top-rope double-team finisher to score 3 pts. & earn a title shot against the current Campeones de Parejas, Claudio Castagnoli & Ares.

4. BDK (Tim Donst/Lince Dorado/Tursas) vs. Da Soul Touchaz (Marshe Rockett/Willie Richardson/Acid Jazz) (10:27/Willie pounce on Lince)
•This was a lively trios contest that saw Tursas show that he really needs to learn how to catch opponents on dives. He barely caught Acid Jazz on a dive, someone who couldn't have been taken off the injury list too long ago. I was quite surprised to see Bruderschaft Des Kreuzes lose this one. It's always fun to see Da Soul Touchaz as they are very entertaining.

5. Eddie Kingston vs. Ares (6:56/school boy after Delirious chain attack & Claudio distraction)
•Eddie injured his lower back a few minutes in & it became quite noticeable after awhile that he wasn't just selling. Ares had Delirious with him at ringside & Delirious got involved throughout the match. Just as Kingston was looking to finish off Ares, Claudio Castagnoli shows up at ringside to distract both Kingston & the referee. Delirious took the opportunity to blindside Kingston with the chain. This allowed Ares to score the pin with a school boy roll-up.

6. The UnStable (Vin Gerard/Colin Delaney/STIGMA) vs. The Future Is Now! (Jigsaw/Helios/Jimmy "Equinox" Olsen) (10:51/DQ-Vin foul on Olsen/Colin babyface turn)
•The big story here was, after several months of build-up, Colin Delaney turned on the other 2 members of the UnStable & Jimmy Olsen threw down the Equinox mask to reunite the Olsen Twins. Vin Gerard got revenge by kicking both Olsen's below the belt & getting himself disqualified.

7. YLC: Frightmare (c) vs. Pinkie "Pink Ant" Sanchez (11:36/Kneecolepsy)
•Frightmare was making the first defense of his Young Lions Cup trophy. Sanchez went for his Burning Hammer variation on numerous occasions but Frightmare reversed his way out each time. The finish seemed a bit rushed.

8. Mike Quackenbush/Manami Toyota vs. Claudio Castagnoli/Sara Del Rey (23:02/Japanese Ocean Queen Bee Bomb & Chikara Special by Toyota on Sara)
•Just the entrance only of Manami Toyota to her authetic theme music gave me goosebumps. Seeing her wrestle was unbelievable. The fact that she couldn't get Del Rey up for he Japanese Ocean Cyclone Suplex was a slight disappointment but getting to meet her in person after the show made up for it. Toyota was more than capable taking several European uppercuts from Claudio while Sara held her own with Quackenbush. In the end, Toyota hit the JOC Queen Bee Bomb. Then to the thrill of the whole audience, Toyota got the tap out using the Chikara Special, which she initially had trouble applying.

Overall, a heck of a debut for Chikara in Brooklyn at pretty nice venue. Look forward to the possibility of their return to this area.
