As was previously rumoured, former Lightheavyweight Champion Forrest Griffin looks set to square off against Former Middleweight King Rich Franklin, in a bout tentatively scheduled for February 5th. Following Franklin's move up in weight, and then Knockout of Chuck Liddell, both fighters are expected to take place at UFC 127.

Franklin will look set to continue his run at Lightheavyweight, since causing an upset by putting Chuck Liddell away at UFC 115, in Vancouver. Since initially moving up in weight, Frankiln has had a mixed bag of results. Since being beaten a second time by Anderson Silva, "Ace" is 4-2, defeating Chuck, Wanderlei Silva, Travis Lutter and Matt Hamill, but losing to Dan Henderson and Vitor Belfort. A win for the Former Champ could see him earn a spot in the top 10 Lightheavyweights, with an eye on one last run at the title.

For Griffin, a win for the winner of the Original season of The Ultimate Fighter, would cement his status in the Lightheavyweight division. In Franklin, Forrest will once again look to upset the odds, just like his wins over Shogun Rua and Rampage Jackson. This bout will be his first since pulling out of a fight with Little Nog because of a shoulder injury. Following surgery, Griffin will aim to continue his run in the Lightheavyweight division, following a split decision win over Tito Ortiz. Overall, Forrest is 17-6. Following his win over Shogun Rua, he captured the belt in a win over Rampage Jackson, before losing it to Rashad Evans. He followed this up with a heavy loss to Anderson Silva.

As well as this exciting Lightheavyweight bout, Anderson Silva is expected to go to war with Vitor Belfort, with his Middleweight strap the prize, while Jon Jones will meet Ryan Bader, in a match filled with title shot implications. The card will go out on the Superbowl Weekend.
