NBC has confirmed that it has cancelled its freshman legal drama Outlaw.
The series starred Jimmy Smits as a Supreme Court Justice who quits the bench to return to private practice.
Rumors that the show was close to cancellation were fuelled last week when production was halted.
Entertainment Weekly says that NBC has now confirmed that it has axed the series.
It will be replaced in its Friday night slot by a second hour of Dateline. Meanwhile, the final four episodes still waiting to be broadcast will be aired on Saturdays at 8pm.
Outlaw is the third freshman drama to be cancelled this season after Lone Star and My Generation were axed by Fox and ABC.
