The director of The Hangover has said that Mel Gibson was not fired from his previously-planned cameo role in the upcoming sequel.
Last month, it emerged that Gibson's part in The Hangover 2 had been axed.
However, helmer Todd Phillips told Metro: "He was never fired. No-one fires a guy doing a cameo. There were talks, then it went away.
"Part of the fun about cameos is they're surprises, so when it came out it became very unattractive to him and us. I have no idea how that happened. You want to hold on to certain things but obviously The Hangover 2 is not going to fly under the radar."
Phillips recently maintained that the original casting of Gibson was not a stunt.
Liam Neeson has reportedly replaced Gibson in the movie.
