Well I guess the only surprise is how soon the announcement came, but just to make it official: The Walking Dead will return for a second season, and AMC has given it a whopping 13 episode order, up from this season's six (blah! NEED MORE!). The word came down after last night's 2nd episode pulled in a whopping 4.7 million viewers, which is about 85% of the number it pulled in for its (record breaking) premiere. Many TV shows plummet greatly after their premiere, so to have this many come back is truly impressive, and speaks volumes about the quality of the show, which is based on the long-running comic by Robert Kirkman (who is on board the show as a producer while continuing to publish "Dead" and other titles monthly). No word yet on when it will air, but given the first season's short run, AMC would be wise not to wait too long. Rick's right hand, however, has requested that they not rush into anything.
